I was referring to the same phenomenon, if P&S can do it, what is the
difficulty in extending the same feature to dSLRs?
The fact that DSLRs cannot focus with mirror up?
(Do you really want a crappy, slow, hunting contrast based AF?)
The fact that the DSLR sensor is purpose built for high resolution
but few readouts per second? And the hardware and firmware too?
The fact that your viewfinder blacks out with the mirror raised
--- thus loosing one of the points of using a DSLR in first place?
The fact that the firmware and hardware is built for handling
and storing JPEGs and RAW files, not for creating MPEG streams?
The fact that DSLRs could also include a swiss army knife, a
toothbrush, a copy of the Enceclopedia Galactica, a mobile phone
and a ball of twine --- and do double duty as kammer and wrench,
too --- but for some obscure reason is designed to do _one_
thing well, not to do dozens half-assed.
One is only asking
for VGA resolution video, not the max resolution of the sensor.
"I'll just read the pixels I need" does not work with many
sensors. Please read up how CCDs and CMOS sensors work.
Regarding your view on cams: like I mentioned, the optics are not as
good. Though resolution wise the GS 57, a cam corder which I have, is
better; the image quality of the video taken by the S3IS is better
quality, much sharper. The GS 57 visuals are always soft. HD cams will
offer higher resolution, but the sharpness will not be at par at the
same price point.
How about post processing?
