I bet you're wrong, and that your source wasn't 100% sure about anything.

There's no "D300" with those specs before D2Xs and particularly D2Hs are
updated.

It seems they need to address the pro market... let people buy the
expensive one, then a few months later comes the lite version.


D300 is for the prosumer market. The new pro camera (D3?) has a
rather more advanced specification, still with the 1.1X crop but
almost 18 MP.
