mind, with its push-pull design, though I used that lens on my D30 for
several years and never had a dust problem.

The air exchanges mostly through the lens itself and the outside world.
Dust accumulates in the lens, but I haven't seen any evidence that it pumps
air into the body to any degree. How much air would go through the body,
if it could escape through some other means?

I always have a 1.4x TC on my cameras with the 100-400, and the 20D and my
new 30D both collect garbage on the sensor very quickly - but it seems that
most of this garbage is generated by the camera itself, IME.

The 400D is the first Canon DSLR designed not to grind itself.

I don't think I'll be getting the inside of my lens close to airborne ash, but you can feel the draught in the palm of your hand when the zoom is moved. ...
