Most likely there are inconsistencies between cameras, because people
keep responding to these that it's operator error because it doesn't
happen to them. But many experienced shooters are running into this on
the K10D. Sounds like a fair amount of cameras with varying degrees of
an auto focus defect, above and beyond the usual low light hunting.
Buy it from a reputable dealer in case you need to send it off.
I went through two K10Ds with several problems, including this one,
before I swapped it for a D80.
