example of a CD that has quit working in less than 3 years, and it was
stored in the dark, in a 68 degree and dry location, and in a sleeve
not a jewel case!

Have you tried to read it on another computer? Maybe that particular drive has a glitch with that particular CD. I doubt this is the reason but it might be worth checking.
