I was thinking more along the lines of how aperture and lens work
together to eliminate oblique or otherwise unwanted light by squeezing
out the non-parallel rays to increase sharpness and by having the plane
of focus of the flash element coincide with the plane of focus selected
by the user.
This whole notion may be ridicules and but I have been thinking a lot
about aperture lately and it seems to me the same principles would
apply to lighting the subject as recording the light.
So let me ask it this way. Does it increase sharpness to light a
subject with focused parallel rays than ambient or light that exits
willy-nilly from a flash or bulb filament?
