Re: More on Canon Rebel XT noise at high ISO - 2 main new data points

Who is unsulting whom, now? I said before and I'll say again -
we don't know each other so neither should make judgments on
unfounded assumptions. If you thinketh me an amatuer, it
probably is because "I are one". I am not a pro, but I am also
not without experience. I'm sorry that I am not articulating
that to you.

Believe whatever, but I've progressed tremendously since I
started this thread. Not there by a long, long shot. But,
progressing rapidly. I've only posted a few finished car
pictures to alt.binaries.pictures.autos because I've just been
too damn busy trying to figure out what to do and what not to
do.

Of some 2,000 test shots I've taken, perhaps a 100 or so will
turn into finished pictures. It no longer serves me or you or
anyone any good to post what I've already figured out.

Yes, there was and is user error. Yes, the camera is too smart
for its own good. When I go somewhere for a test shoot, I
start by resetting the /entire/ camera back to factory stock.
Then, I take controlled sequences of pictures. For example, I
might walk around a museum with the camera set to ISO 1600 and
vary WB, EV, etc. in the exact same order each time (WB needs
to change because the WPC museum has windows, tungsten spots
andd fluorescents). That makes it straight-forward (although
not trivial) to sort out the crap from the OK from the good by
looking on my monitor, comparing that to what the LCD on the
camera shows, and looking at EXIF to remind myself how I had
the camera set.

I am still more than a thousand images from a conclusion, but
this much I know: there's no point right now to a random dump
of JPEGs someplace. And, it matters not whether I demand
Usenet or go with WWW or FTP. After I understand more, and the
flames die down around here, I'll come back with some
observations and perhaps new questions.

Meanwhile, Alan, take a gander from time-to-time in a.b.p.a.,
try to ignore my intentional rants, and just look for my
handle by binary posts. For obvious reasons, I am /not/
spending a hour for each picture. I'm spending 2-3 minutes on
/very/ basic PSP tweaks. If I can't do that, then I have to go
back to the drawing board and find out what I'm still doing
wrong with the camera and flash.

Stay tuned, please be patient, and thanks again.
