It's not always a matter of cost. For me, it would be the issue of
how many devices I need to carry around with me when I am out and
about, but even more so when I'm travelling.

Aside from the bag full of lenses and one, may be two bodies, there
will be the portable storage device, the cellphone, the Palm Pilot,
and the music player. Oh, and I could throw in a GPS unit, ideally
one with a screen big enough for auto usage, but also portable enough
for pedestrian usage. (Disclaimer: I am a complete, utter noob about
GPS devices.) And I didn't even say that I wanted this magic box to
display pictures.

So I just defined five device (plus their batteries and chargers ...)
that I could carry around. It would be nice if I could get multiple
functions in one device. One of the newer Palms has a hard drive, but
it's only 4 GB. At 60 GB, with the right connectors, it could also be
the photo data storage unit and the music player. With a plug-in for
the GPS, and maybe even a Treo-style integrated phone.

THAT product won't be cheap, probably over $600, but I would get that
product in a heartbeat. THat is if I could. I suspect the market for
such a device is very, very small.
