Yes. I concur with the OP, however: Add $50 to the equation to get the
hard-drive-based iPod (as opposed to the flash-based Nano) and it will be the
CHEAPEST upgrade I can think of.
For $50 more, you get a screen that is almost 3 times larger, a storage
capacity 7.5 times greater and, if nothing else, a GREAT portable hard drive.

This is probably one area where the difference between Apple (per se) and the
<ahem> REST of the personal computing world is negligible: iTunes is the
common thing here and the Windows version is BEAUTIFUL - and that's high
praise coming from a diehard Mac fanatic. iTunes for Windoze is an incredibly
faithful, built-from-the-ground-up application. It is NO kludgy "port".
In other words, to get the most "horsepower" from the iPod, you must use
iTunes. It's a GREAT music manager in any case, so you ought to download the
appropriate version for you right now, dump a few of your CDs into it and
check it out BEFORE you get an iPod.
For her graduation from medical school, Heidi was given a Canon PowerShot
SD300 Digital Elph (4mp). Leslie's mother got a SD200 shortly thereafter.
(3.2mp)
These are FABULOUS cameras but, after using them more than a little, one thing
strikes me: For me, they are really TOO small. I think the same concept
applies to the incredibly shrinking iPod. The Nano, while incredibly cool, is
almost TOO small. Ironically, that's what makes it so cool.
The human interface is what ultimately stops the descent toward ultra
miniaturization. Cell phones have just about shrunk as small as they can get
and still be "usable" to the average fingertip. The distance between the
mouth and ear of the smallest cellphone user is finite.
Don't think of Apple Computer (much) when considering an iPod. It's fully
integrated into the REAL world of Windows. Get the bigger one. You won't
regret it.
