When you buy a purebred, you know exactly what you are
getting, if you purchase from a reputable breeder. My latest female will
not exceed 65 lbs, which is standard for a female GSD. I have a breed
standards book which has the standards for all breeds recognized by the
AKC.
If my female exceeds 65 lbs, I wouldn't be able to show her, so it is
paramount, if you are buying a puppy to show, that you know what wt. she
will attain.

Gotta piggyback here:

So go look at your book for Labrador Retrievers, for me will you, please?
Then go look at the monstrosities they are showing and winning BOB (Best
ofBreed) in their group. You tell me that is what the ORIGINAL Labradors
were to look ike, that the 'akc standard' hasn't changed. This is only to
get some answers for myself no attack.

Those Westminster dogs are extremelley overweight, over skinned, <VBG>,
(more like bloodhounds), and so large I doubt they'd get anywhere near my
lab gal. (And nope, no anti-Westminster person here, I know many of
Manhattan's decendents, personally. You do know who Manhatten was right?)

She, Ceilidh aka Boo, was 'adoptewd' at 4 mo old from the Erie SPCA in
Philly. She was bought at a pet store, coming in on a puppymillers truck,
I'm sure. And yet, even tho she has a very serious problem with her hips,
(NOT hip dysplaysia, but not well bred.)

Take the two of them, the Westminster Labrador winner and my adopted lab
gal, out to do what Labs are BRED to do, and see who comes in the closest to
the breed's 'standard' for doing what they were bred to do. It ought to be
very simple. This will show a very big difference in shape and size. It,
however, in no way, diminishes that my lab gal is a true lab, given her
ht/wt standards, and also her main reason for being bred..... Even tho she
was bred by unscrupulous 'breeders', she is so much more the 'field bred'
lab and designed to do just that, moreso by a long shot than the overweight,
fat, slobby, labs that win at Westminster!
