Re: bruising on tummy

This has gone overboard in both directions. To the OP, many people come here
looking for advice. Sometimes they concern matters that can be handled at
home, some want advice on what questions to ask the vet. In some cases, as
well as yours, it concerns a matter that cannot be advised over the 'net and
the OP is advised to take their pet to the vet. When the OP comes back and
tells us what happened sometimes we learn something and even later the OP is
able to share their experience with others. So advising someone here to go
to the vet is simply a translation for, "can't help you here."

However, the continued thread scolding one for owning a pet when they are on
a limited income is insulting as we could never know from our side of the
screen what the details are. Some people's income dives after a spouses dies
or there is sudden job loss. Pets at that time provide invaluable comfort
and simply finding the pet another home because of income could be
detrimental.

Many vets, including our office, will work with clients - tirelessly - to
make sure that their pets are taken care of. They talk with clients and,
after many years, I can tell you that there are many clients in our
community who have confided in their vet as a trusted family member and have
relied on them for basic comfort. We have some clients who we continue to
allow to pay $5 a month with no finance fee. We don't advertise this because
if we did this for able paying clients we wouldn't be able to pay our own
bills. When pets are injured in a fire or natural disaster we never charge
the client. There are ways to get vet services, save the very expensive
procedures, and sometimes advice over the phone is all that is needed. In
our practice that's free.

So to the OP, at least *call* a vet. To the newsgroup - lay off. The critics
are not doing themselves any favors.
