Metacam and liver enzymes

My nearly-13 year old Lab was just found to have slightly elevated
liver enzymes after 4 months on Metacam. Her hips have been going
since she's age 7, the Metacam was a last resort after going through
all the non-NSAID options such as multiple levels of Glycoflex,
Adequan, fish oil, etc.

It's looking like the choice I have now is to take her off the Metacam
and improve her liver, with her not being able to walk then (her hips
are that bad), or to leave her on the Metacam and have her liver
deteriorate. Either way I feel like I'm on the back 9 with her.

A few questions:

1) Does anyone know of any NSAID or other strong anti-inflammatory that
has fewer liver effects than the Metacam (which is said to be pretty
good, at least compared to Rimadyl)?

2) Any ideas on preserving/restoring her liver function? Has anyone
used milk thistle/Silymarin for this purpose?

The Metacam has been wonderful for her, has given her a new lease on
life, but now this....

Thanks in advice,
Liz and Lucy
