Six months ago we saw small rough patches on her ears. No apparent discomfort - no scratching or pawing, no shaking. Vet took scrapings and saw nothing under the microscope, so we applied Goodwinol (Rotenone 0.45%) in the event mites were involved, and the patches subsided. They returned and Goodwinol had no effect, so we went to Triderma (antifungal, antibiotic) - and the patches faded into scabs
No drugs or treatment seems to help, repeated cultures, scrapings, and microscopic examination showed nothing. Two vet clinics are at a loss.
.........Get a fungal culture done. If the Triderma worked, it seems to me it's not mites but fungus. Lymedip works for both sarcoptic mange and fungal problems, so that's what I'd use. It's not toxic.

Thanks -- forgot to mention that we did cultures, multiple media, with negative results. New subspecies - sarcoptes invisibilus.
I withheld this dog's oral Ivermectin, so when we visit the vet on Tuesday I'll force the issue and push for either the shot or the topical. Either, I understand, will handle sarcops in her environment (dog-bed, etc.) as the mites don't live long off her body, and on her body the drug will kill them.
