Gosh, my ex-wife has several dogs and she is a doggie lover. Her
latest is one "Charlie Brown" a 9 month old Cocker. The problem is
that he has a smell that is too terrible to endure. She has to leave
him outside in a pen becuase of the odor.
She has him groomed regularly, he has the' Crocker trim'. and she
loves him dearly but cannot stand his smell.
Any breedres or Vets out there with an idea? Please?
Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a vet or breeder, but I have been around a couple of smelly dogs.

It could possibly be his ears that are causing the problem. Dogs with
droopy ears have to have their ears checked and cleaned out all the time or
they smell terrible. They can form a wax buildup that mixes in with dirt and
hair, which causes a bad odor. Sometimes their ears get infected and that
smells the same. That happened to a Poodle I had many years ago.
Have a vet check the dog's ears if the smell is coming from his ears. If
they're infected the vet will give you something to put in the dog's ears.

It could also be a skin infection, skin allergy, or yeast infection. My
neighbor had an Akita that had a bad skin condition and the dog smelled all
the time. It had to have ongoing skin treatments.

It could also be an infected tooth. My daughter's Pug has to have his mouth
checked and cleaned professionally because of his bad breath. He has a
problem with his jaw and tooth.

When a dog's hair gets matted due to lack of receiving proper grooming, the
dog can smell also.

I would take him to a vet to see what exactly is the problem.

Here is a link on ear problems and one on skin problems.
