I'm 'way out of my depth here, but I have had two experiences with
a veterinary rehab specialist (Dr. John Sherman at VetHab). Two
points really struck me:

1. The specificity with which he could diagnose a soft-tissue
injury (strain in a specific tendon), differentiate it from orthopedic
problems (the dog had a history of these, in the same area), and
set a program of stretches and exercise to help it heal.

2. His difference of opinion from many orthopedic surgeons on
"crate rest" vs. a controlled exercise program following surgery.
That is, Dr. Sherman considers exercise essential following the types
of surgery we discussed.

My vet keeps up with her continuing education and supports his
opinion on the exercise, and I note that following my husband's orthopedic
surgery, the physical therapists started working with him in the hospital
the next day. I suspect he is right that total rest is a very bad idea.

Again, I'm out of my depth but the vague diagnosis and the
six weeks of rest make me uneasy, and I wanted to suggest that you
might get her evaluated by a sports-medicine or rehab specialist.
VetHab is in Raleigh, NC. I think there are a few others doing
this kind of thing. They might be able to give you a referral (unless
you are nearby!).
