Well, I've had 4 dogs. 2 Goldens, 1 Collie/Springer mix, and the
current beast is a Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix.
My best strategy is to simply ask people that I know that own dogs of
the breed I'm looking for who their breeder was. Then call them, see if
they have pups, and then if they don't, who might they know. As to the
two mixed breeds, the Collie/Springer mix was a litter mate of a pup a
neighbor had. As to the Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix, my editor had just
lost his dog, and knew of a friend whose dog had just had pups.
Having lost both Goldens to cancer, I wanted to go for a mix and try
for a little hybrid vigor, which I got. I also didn't want a dog that
shed, and one that would be a bit easier to travel with.
You are talking here to a man who has a king sized bed so there is more
room for the dog....
