Apparently dogs can take twice the dose per kg than humans can.
My vets have always told me that I can give 1-3 mg/#. For a 50# dogs,
that's (2) 25 mg capsules/caplets. My sister uses Benadryl and she's
sleepy with 1 (and needless to say, she's not only 50#).
I take generic Hydroxyzine (brand name Atarax) at varying dosages. Have
been taking every day for the last 20+ years. I remember when a vet
prescribed it for one of my dogs. I was shocked at how high a dosage he
could take! Apparently this stuff makes a lot of people sleepy.
After 20 years on it, I don't even notice that. Stop taking it for a
few days, and I'm ready to rip my skin off.

Atty takes hydroxyzine. 25mg 2x a day. It does not seem to make her as
dopey as benydryl (that should be sleepy - she's a dope regardless)
