I don't know where HJM is getting his numbers,
From Purina (supposedly the feed that Paul was using), which you would
have known, had you simply reviewed the whole thread before replying,
and which you almost never do anymore.
I will certainly concur with that observation...
Our Two-Legged Food Dispensing Machine (aka: Paul Schoen) has been
feeding Muttley enough food (4-5 cups of PDC kibble, plus table
scraps, "snacks", etc.) for a dog weighing 100+ pounds.
Before I actually controlled Muttley's food intake, he was free fed (for
two years) from a large bowl that was rarely empty. I estimate that he ate
2-3 cups a day, but when I had Lucky here last summer, he would sometimes
"binge" and eat the entire bowl (competitive eating?), and I would feed her
in her crate. So I would not be surprised if he had gained a lot of weight
then, when Diddy saw him.
And even the Purina numbers are high, so feeding Muttley no more than
2-3 cups per day, period, would be a good start in the right
direction.
And this is exactly what I am doing. Well, not exactly, because I am
feeding him half again of what you are recommending. 3/4 cup twice a day =
1.5 cups daily. Perhaps you, too, have not really read my posts.
Then, once Muttley's weight returns to the 60s, his feed can be
adjusted accordingly, presumably even further downward, depending on
his level of activity, etc.
Got it now?
PS: But who knows for sure? Paul's so full of *** that anything he
says here should always be taken with a grain of salt. Muttley
*looked* pretty good when he was (supposedly!) 62-65 pounds, and
that's the weight that Paul should be shooting for now - if he cares
anything at all about Muttley's health, longevity, etc., which is
doubtful at this point.
So, it's a matter of trust on your part. But I sense even more that you
would rather assume a self-righteous attitude and really want me to fail
with Muttley's weight reduction program just so you can wring your hands
and say, "Poor Muttley", and continue to judge me unfairly and falsely.
Have you seen his more recent pictures? Don't you see some improvement, as
others (with perhaps a sharper and less prejudiced eye) have noticed?
Sheesh!
Paul and Muttley
