I've done this for about 50 years now, and at no time have I ever
created a hand-shy dog. And they're handled almost constantly from the
moment they're born. I'm not exactly Mikhail Baryshnikov, but I'm not
a klutz either. Of course you have to be careful, but you're making a
mountain out of a molehill.

I don't think so.

Then you're a doofus - i.e., uneducable.

No, just careful.

You're like the guy who's afraid to leave his house for fear of a
pigeon shitting on his head.

No, it doesn't follow that I would fear something like that
just because I'm being careful with my pup.

I'm just being extra careful not to scare my
pup, because being extra large, like we are, requires it.

No, you're not. You're just trying to be difficult.

Otherwise you'd just say, Okay, I'll do it, and I'll be careful.

You haven't offered any advice, so what should I be agreeing
to here?

Actually, I agree with Melinda (and that happens only once every
twelve to thirteen years). I think you're just a smart-ass, which is
okay, but I really hate wasting my time. You don't really want
advice.

The only advice I'm after is how to quickly stop a Jack Russell
pup from humping without having to frighten or punish him.

And you've been told *exactly* how to do that.

Yet you rejected it.

No, that's false. Julia Altshula offered some good advice,

"The only thing I can think of to add that might be helpful is that
sometimes it's possible to discourage an unwanted behavior by
training an incompatible alternate behavior. This isn't a perfect
solution, but it is a good direction to go in."
UqWdndYPILXukt3VnZ2dnUVZ_uWdnZ2d@xxxxxxxxxxx

and so did others.

As far as his other training requirements are concerned, I've made
it plain from the start that I'm quite capable to fulfil them on my
own. I will be taking him to classes after he's had his second
round of jabs, but that's mainly to get him to socialize with other
dogs.

It's your prerogative, but you should know that you're wasting
precious (never again available!) time now by waiting.

No, I'm just being careful here as well. We can wait a few more
days before starting classes. After all, it's the vet's considered
opinion that he doesn't mix with other dogs or walk the streets
until he's had his other jabs.
