Because environmentalists are essentially pagans, who care far more
about rocks and trees than about human beings.

No, we care that people are living in ways that are detrimental to life in
all its forms, and the era of conspicuous consumption and competition is
about to come to an end. Some people will be the first to feel the effects
of this, and I do not feel sorry for those who have lived extravagant
lifestyles far beyond their means. If they have fallen victims to the
enticement of credit card company advertising, or predatory lending
practices, it is often because they lack the intelligence and character to
strive for greater goals than their own self-aggrandizement. I don't know
these people personally, but from their description I infer that they are
the type to show off their superficial materialism while failing to provide
for the economic downturn that is largely due to the collective wasteful
lifestyles and selfishness that is one of its root causes.

It's the story of the ant and the grasshopper nearing its fabled
conclusion. It's all about personal responsibility and the eventual triumph
of cooperation over competition. And I have little pity for grasshoppers.
