I have a couple of Poms or I should say they have me. Anyway, my male is
extremely timid he is scared of everything the wind, noise, his shadow, and
especially the vinyl floor. He's been with us since he was a puppy, about 5
yrs. He's always been fed on the vinyl and recently we put a chair near the
feed bowl and that means he has to walk around the chair to get to the food.
It will take him hours to get up the courage to make the new path. My
question is, is there something I can do to help him with his lack of
courage.
Bill, it's probably due to a lack of proper socialization to all the
sights, sounds, smells, and goings-on of life, during the pup's
critical first 16 weeks of life. Or it may be due to the pup's
breeding, especially his mother's temperament. Or a combination of
both.
If so, there's not a lot that can be done at this point.
One thing that can help him, however, is some good OBEDIENCE TRAINING
(Hi, Judy!), which will help him gain some confidence.
Would you say that your home is a peaceful place? Or generally noisy
and chaotic?
Do you take him for daily walks?
Does he get any other exercise?
