For some time I have been meaning to read a book Melinda recommended, "It Takes a Village Idiot" by Jim Mullen. I finally got it from the library and in the midst of work woes and holiday frazzle, sat down, read the book, and laughed aloud until the last chapter.
So, all this time later, thanks for the suggestion, and it's worth a read for those who enjoy a good (and short) "fish out of water" tale.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I read it a few years ago and remember that I *loved* it. Then, after I suggested it to Melinda, I read it again and it didn't strike me as quite as wonderful. So I'm kind of glad to hear that it was probably just my reading the second time - I was starting to regret that I had recommended it.
Some days lately, my reactions are not so normal. I've been just reading the group in a drive-by manner. We've been having a family crisis and will be spending today moving my MIL to a skilled nursing center. Where we are hoping for a very short stay to be followed by a simple memorial service. This world frustrates me - I would have had my *dog* put to sleep a year ago. And don't get me started on how Medicare and the health care system treat dementia and mental illness.
This may not be Hell but I can see the glow and smell the sulfur. It's close enough.
Judy
