I'm sorry about the chickens Jenny. It's infuriating, I know. Since i've
had chickens, I've had constant vigilance over them, watching out windows,
shotguns and pistols at the chicken veiwing windows. We don't go outside
without a gun.
that sounds like a good idea. I asked my dad to show me how to shoot and he
said, I can wake him if need be. I said "even at midnite?". he said
"sure". he knows how protective I am of my dogs and what a wreck I would be
if something happened to them.
anyway, I haven't seen the raccoon again. If I do, its a goner. I also
mentioned to my brother who hunts on our land to shoot to kill if he ever
sees a raccoon. he said he would, even though the chickens are gone and we
won't have more again. hopefully this is sufficient.
I buy replacement chicks in the spring, and the war on cats begins,
because
cats have done the greatest damage to my chick populations of anything.
I would never have guessed. do you get many that come looking for food?
As
the chickens grow, cat predation is always an issue, but the bigger issue
begins to be fox and coyotes and weasels.
I hope you shoot those as well!
it feels wonderful to finally be at rest, not having to watch for
predators
at all times. I'm taking a mental vacation til spring.
sounds good!
