There's a mess of different Inuit groups and a mess of
Inuktitut dialects, not to mention the Russian aboriginal
languages. And, of course, the Siberian Husky is a Chukchi
breed.
That's as I would expect, considering how geography affects ethnic
groups and language and whatnot.
I'm also pretty sure that I would not personally decide to haul out
the ethnic names just because my puppies might be a mix of Breed X.
It strikes me as appropriative and exploitative and just kind of
distasteful, but what the hell do I know?
An extremely cool thing in the Anchorage airport was a group
of soldiers standing around talking in Inuktitut. There's
something you don't see in the Syracuse airport.
No, I should think not.
One of the things I really love about my job is that I do get to hear
all sorts of folks speaking all sorts of languages. Just taking the
escalator up from the cafeteria is neat, because it all sort of
washes over you, Tower of Babel-like.
