i left the head poof, the tail poof, and ankle bracelets.
Maui and Calu get slight poofs on the head and tail, nothing dramatic.
their ears are usually also a bit more full but nothing like that picture.
they were buzzed recently though just for a change. plus the last few
weeks
are hot, hot, hot and i figured it would help beat the heat.
she was everywhere from downright nekkid to poofy-eared to a really
shameful pseudo-continental. i sucked at grooming, but i tried. i had
her done professionally right after i got her to get her all cleaned
up, but after that i prefered to mutilate her on my own. haha!
Maui would get complete professional groomings plus the occasional hair
snipped here and there by me. when i got cali, she got 1 or 2
professional groomings before I decided it would be easy enough and much
cheaper to get good clippers and do it myself. i have a large grooming
table so it would even hold a standard poodle I think. as for the quality
of the cuts, the dogs get a variety. when i am in a good mood about it,
they get a nice, slow, good cut. when i just need to get it done, its much
quicker, less picky and not always the best. sometimes, i'll do just their
legs and then a few days later do the body. right now, maui''s legs and
tail are long and his body, face, head is short. he got the first part of
the cut a few days ago and i didn't have the time or patience to finish it.
yeah, he looks a bit odd, but he's not going in any contests anytime soon.
cali has short ears and tail but everything else is long. she'll have to
wait a bit to get finished though. i called a new groomer today, i had
never found a good one i trusted enough. now that i am making more money, i
can afford the professional jobs but not the time to do it myself, due to FT
grad school and FT work.
if i get a standard, i so need to get better clippers, real scissors,
and a mentor.
good clippers and scissors are key. i went thru 4 clippers before i kept
one and it came with a good pair of scissors. the clippers were less than
$80 and have lasted for about 2 years. that's good enough for me, since the
groomings are $40-60 per dog for 1 time.
anyway, she was old when you got her right? will you ever have another
poodle?
she was 15 1/2 when i got her, and she was a couple months shy of 17
when i lost her. i don't know if i'd want another little poodle, but i
totally lust after a standard.
join the club! I've been lusting after a standard poodle for years. It
should be about 2 years before I can get one because grad school is making
me too busy. I know its best to wait that long but I really want one some
days that I don't want to wait.
if i get one, it won't be until a number of years down the line. luce
and mushroom turn five this winter, and my plan is to get a young dog
(or even... gasp... a puppy!)
I am torn about this. I love puppies but also want to adopt an older
shelter dog. I don't ever plan to have 4 dogs so I got to pick eventually
because my current two are living forever.
when they're either both old and
decripit, or one of them is gone. hopefully that won't be for a good
long time!
hopefully!
