Modern spaying only removes the ovaries. Less invasive, just as
effective.

Spaying removes the uterus and the ovaries. It's possible to do a
tubal on a dog. However. they still have seasons and can still get
pyo. Since most people spay dogs because they don't want a bloody mess
and all the boy dogs in their neighborhood camping on the front porch,
the majority of spays removes all the reproductive equipment. In
certain situations the uterus is not removed (like at Wolf Park when
they don't want the inordinately difficult wolf to reproduce, but want
her to be able to maintain her status in the pack. In that case, the
animal continues to cycle. Sometimes a botched spay leaves some
tissue, and results in esterus like symptoms. Your vet would probably
know. Sometimes bleeding is the sign of a serious medical situation,
like a really over the top UTI.
