I'd wager more than a few bucks that my Midwestern elocution (and
Flick's, too) is *much* more friendly on the ears than that of some
pompous, Joe Pesci-sounding, weasel-faced, rotten-toothed pinko from
*New York,* of all freakin' places.

Bizarre to think that you and I would write as we do, and sound like extras
in 'Deliverance.'

Well, I can speak "good ol' boy" with the best of 'em, but I can blend
in pretty well at cultural/civic/academic events, too.

Mostly, strangers who hear me talk aren't sure where I'm from. Possibly the
South, possibly the lower Midwest, possibly Arizona or New Mexico.

Most broadcasters, anchors, etc. hail from the Midwest, because most
people won't require the services of a United Nations interpreter to
understand us, unlike with most people from New York, New Jersey, etc.

But it's interesting to now see you trying to imply the same thing
about me, and about Flick, that you're criticizing Tiny Dancer for
doing regarding Vick.

She didn't even correct our spelling or grammar errors first. She's just
assuming that since she doesn't like our POV, we must sound like some
stereotypical, ungrmmatical hicks.

Well, that's what serves as critical thinking today, in the ol'
"reality-based" community.

They'll be down to using Ouija boards and/or sacrificing chickens
before long.

Not much "reality" there.

Nope. None. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

They are to reality what radical Muslims are to tolerance.

The comments on the above article are a scream. Best one so far
(paraphrased): Tell me the next time a trout wakes you up when the house is
burning.

Did you see those bulging neck veins on O'Donnell? The clenched fist?
Both prime examples of what living in the "reality-based" community
can do to ya.'

I picture Mel, when she's writing her posts, in much the same way.

Bulging neck veins. Clenched fists.

Head spinning wildly, a la Linda Blair.

*This* is the *real* reason why the "reality-based" community pushes global-warming hysteria.

Why "liberal" doesn't quite fit:
"In the short term, this reflects the failure of the Republican Party to secure its hard-won victories. In
the longer term, this may provide a new opportunity for the heirs to authentic liberalism - today's conservatives -
as they often thrive when lovers of big government, by whatever name they go by, overreach."

"The main proponents of 'universal coverage' want to throw more money at the current health care system,
which strikes me as unwise. I believe that the 'universal coverage' mantra is dysfunctional for the same
reason that 'more money for public schools' is a dysfunctional mantra for education. When your current
approach is digging you into a hole, the sensible thing to do is not to dig faster. It is to stop digging."
