Thanks, Melinda. I was hoping someone would speak to the nutritional
content of the Canidae related to skin health. I am wondering if there
might be another reason for the dry skin.

I posted in health, but in summary, the itchiness, sans funk, is all over.
Maybe it's allergies, even though there are no other signs (and her skin
LOOKS good), or maybe it's just maturity? I know my skin has gotten dryer
with age.

Matt mentioned in breeds to another poster that parasites can cause skin
itching. She's definitely clear of the normal parasites (fleas, heartworm
and all the intestinal worms that Interceptor covers). Is there another
parasite I should be looking for?

Another theoretical cause is a fungal infection. I had a dog get a
fungal infection infection after a food allergy caused severe
itching. After the allergy had been taken care of and the itching
taken care of through medicine the skin still wouldn't clear up. To
make matters worse the fungal infection caused worse itching than the
food allergy any time he was taken off the medication. It took a
while to diagnose the fungal infection, but after proper treatment
everything cleared up and he was able to be removed from the
medicine. Something that only a vet can help with though... and I
don't believe it is very common, just something to consider if all
other leads do not yield results.
