At the Cleveland Classic I saw some Airedales doing agility. What impressed me most though, was an Airedale in Novice Sits and Downs. A Dalmatian broke sits.. ran amuck and wiped out an entire line of sitting dogs, and landed on the Airdale at the very end, sinking its teeth into the poor dog's withers.
The dog never broke sit, and just sat there staring at mom. I can imagine what it was thinking! I imagine the owner proofed that dog VERY well, but even then, this HAD to be a worse case scenario, and the sit held.
I was so very impressed!
Of all the dogs in there, the last one I would have attacked, were I a sentient dog, would have been the Airedale. And yet, that Airedale proved the safest of the lot.
What happened next? How was the Dalmatian removed? (He was removed, wasn't he?) What did Mom do to protect her dog?
This might not be related, but I'm thinking about the way dogs react to shots at the veterinarian. Sheppe never seemed to notice them. I really think she didn't feel them. Genny would whine and cry, possibly squirm, but never acted like it had entered her head to do anything to the vet. She just wanted to get off the table. Cubbe is highly sensitive. She knows she's going to be hurt and wiggles and squirms and might bite if she weren't muzzled. I wonder if the weird attack might go in that category. Is it possible that the Airedale didn't respond to the Dalmatian because, never having been attacked before, he was so surprised, and also because he was like Sheppe in that he didn't feel the teeth in his flesh?
