I have to say, having a dog who has had significant fear issues,

no how. Maybe the reviewer completely misunderstood Millan
(doubtful, as Mark Derr is not an idiot)? I can't imagine
correcting Harriet, or getting into a dominance/submission struggle
with her, while she's scared. It sounds bloody awful to me, and a
good way to turn a dog into a fear biter.
My Trissa was raised with no socialization (she hadn't been outdoors
until the Animal Control raid, and she was 14 months old then), in a
pack of 20-some other dogs, and an abusive male. She is still
somewhat fearful of some men, but at the beginning she was afraid of
everything, including leaves blowing in the yard, and the dark. A
couple of times, once at the vet and once when DH was trying to dry
her feet, she evidently felt threatened and bit. I don't even want to
think of what would have happened to her had we forced her to "face
her fear".
I'm sorry, but *dominating* a dog is not on my to-do list. Period.
And, now I understand why Jack thinks the sun shines out of St.
Cesar's sexist effin' arse.
Heh. Cesar comes from a fairly sexist culture, so his comments about
women aren't surprising. Misguided, but not surprising.
