This situation is just weird and a bit disturbing. I had Pablo microchipped
when he was about a year old. Lucy was microchipped by her breeder but I
haven't gotten around to transferring the microchip contact info to me. So
if I get this straight, if Pablo and Lucy were lost and brought to this
shelter, I can claim Lucy since I didn't put the chip in but I can't claim
Pablo? (Dang - Pablo's the good dog - he's the one I would want back ;-))
Heck, the two reasons my collies are microchipped is so a shelter can trace
and contact me and as a proof of ownership.
My guess is that your vet microchipped Pablo with a chip they
supplied, and you registered the chip to yourself? I would hope
they would acknowledge you as the owner. I used a chip I
bought from the manufacturer. I guess this identifies me as either
a breeder or a vet, and they figured out that I'm not a vet. In your
case, they could probably tell your vet implanted the chip.
The chip did work to get the dog back to her owner in this case--
it was just stressful for me along the way.
