Not really, or at least not AKC except for tiny shelties. Of which there are some of course. But most Shelties jump 16, not 12.
Hah. Hahahahah. If only... the numbers of tiny shelties (which everyone MUST have for the 12" class!!) seems to be growing exponentially. I'm seeing dogs coming from the "hot" breeders that look (and act) identical to puppy mill rescues - fine bird bones, no coat, domey heads, prick ears, snipey muzzles, and of course, ridiculously high strung. While I'm no fan of the overdone, clunky, heavy bone and coat dogs that are popular in the show ring, I'm fairly disgusted at what is being churned out for sport. Everyone's gotta have that tiny sheltie to make the world team, yanno. The famous handlers have them so they can fly them as demo dogs for seminars, and the wannabees gotta get them too.
We really don't see it that much in this area. But we get a fair number of Dustin babies here. Dustin is Joan Meyer's World Team dog, he's finished, and he's gorgeous with a super temperament. Her new dog, Neil, a Dustin son, is in 12" class. She didn't set out to have him be 12", he just was. And he's a lovely little dog, both in looks and in attitude. Joans dogs tend to be seriosly fast but sensible, and aren't huge barkers. We have 2 Dustin puppies in our training group now, one will jump 16" and one will jump 12".
It seems to me that there is quite a bit of variation in Sheltie height in general. We also have some in this area that jump 20.
