If he likes other dogs, then he will like living with another dog,
assuming the dog is a good match for him.
I love having 2 dogs but the adjustment period was REALLY HARD. So be
sure you're up for that -- your energy/readiness/willingness is probably
the most important thing here. I actually got my second dog at a time
when I was having some health problems, which made it harder and meant
that my patience was lower than normal. But the adjustment period didn't
last that long, and now our home life is harmonious again (for the most
part).
I like your idea of getting an adult from a shelter. Zoe was my first
dog, and as she grew up she became kind of particular about her
playmates, so I wanted to find someone she could really bond with.
Luckily, Queenie walked into our yard one day and the rest is history.
