/begin minor rant(snipped self)
I mentioned I'm cat sitting. That's no big deal. I like Schwartzie and Fedders, they're very sweet. My neighbor is also an avid gardener. She has tons of outdoor potted and hanging plants. I have never been exceptionally strong, so dragging garden hoses around to water plants isn't something I'm willing to do. She asked someone else to tend to the plants. And that's fine with me.
JillYes, I was wrong. This is hysterical! Lynn called me on Tuesday just to check in. I told her I didn't know who was letting Fedders out. It sure wasn't me! She said she'd talk to her friend. Well, her friend swore she hasn't been messing with the cats. Tuesday evening Fedders came to the sliding door when I called for him to come in. Wednesday morning, he wasn in the house again! (I can't remember if I got him to come in that evening or not.) Thursday morning, no Fedders again. Thursday afternoon I heard thunder so I went back over and called and called. No joy. Not long after that it poured down rain! I called Lynn. I don't know what's going on, but what am I supposed to do? She said, "Oh, it won't hurt him to stay out. He'll find a place to hunker down out of the rain." But I *still* had no idea how he was getting out.
I got him inside this morning and he rushed to eat his breakfast. It looked like rain again today. I figured okay, he doesn't like the rain so he can stay inside today. When I went over to dish up their dinner, Schwartzie was at the slider meowing... at Fedders, who was once again outside! I was determined to get to the bottom of this.
Guess what? Lynn left a window in the master bedroom open several inches... and there's no window screen! The little dickens has been jumping up on a chair by the window and letting himself out!! LOL I called her and said, "Mystery solved!" She couldn't believe the little stinker has been letting himself out. And once he did he couldn't jump back in. These windows are 3 feet off the ground. He could leap that high, I know. But the windows are sideways crank style (like mine) they and don't have sills for him to land on. While he was eating his dinner tonight I closed the window. He's in for the night, this time for sure! Whew!
Lynn will be back tomorrow afternoon after picking up Schwartzie's k/d on her way home. I guess she just under-estimated the amount of k/d left in the bag. I'll let them out in the morning when I give them breakfast, if they want to go out. Fedders will, for sure. He's probably peeved his excape route has been cut off ;) Schwartzie doesn't seem to like going out much anymore. I let him stay in if he wants to. (She doesn't like that, but what am I supposed to do, drag him out from under the bed and toss him out the door? Not gonna happen.)
I swear, I thought I was losing my mind! I'm glad I figured it out. She might want to consider getting a window screen if she's going to leave that window open in mild weather.
Jill
