Re: Good Gosh!!!

Wow, I'm glad to hear that's normal, but now-a-days, on a fraction of my
salary, that sounded pretty high - but my vet has to make a living too and I
imagine they're feeling the pinch more than the rest of us (as are the
"luxury services" that people stop using when belts are tightened). He's
definitely worth it, either way - I wouldn't even think about using another
vet. And, of course, I wouldn't never *not* take one of the masters to the
vet just because of money - I'd go to eBay and sell off some of my junk
first. It's just discouraging because I'd managed to put aside, a bit at a
time, $300 for emergencies (yep, that's a piddly amount, but it was a
start - and this visit was almost a third of that just for some "bugs" LOL,
such is life (I've been saying that a lot lately, haven't I? ROTFLMAO - I
originally wrote in a typo, "suck is life" and that's just as apropos! ;>

Well, I'm off to my doctor's office (thankfully, having reached my
out-of-pocket maximum, all my medical services and drugs are free.

Ozzy has been having an itchy ear, constantly shaking his head and

cats'
ear cleaning fluid and a Q-tip (but please don't try to do this if you
don't
have experience doing it because if you dig too deep you could burst an
eardrum). Ben brought him to the vet today to get him looked at and get
ear
mite medication. They said that we succeeded in cleaning out the mites
and
he only had the detritus left. They wanted an extra $20 to send the
detritus to the lab and an extra $40 to clean out the ear! Ben decided
that
was not necessary said no to the extra fees. Just the visit and medicine
cost us $71!!! I thought that was a bit outrageous for just a case of
ear
mites. Has anyone else had this problem (believe it or not, this is the
first case I've run into with my cats since they're strictly indoor) and
is
that really outrageous or just the usual cost for a visit and meds?

It costs $60 just to say 'hi' to my vet, so $71 sounds like you got off
pretty lightly.
