I can't bear to move him, he looks so comfy...

He also looks possessive and rather irritated. LOL

Yeah, "will you PLEASE put down that stupid camera and let me sleep in
PEACE??"

how are things in your household?

Smokey, aka Evil Incarnate, has taken on every cat in the house. QC
sleeps with him as she also comforts Amanda, who has some sort of stomach
bug which has kept her here rather than going to a new art museum in
Raleigh with Jim's family. I usually have between one and five cats
sleeping with me every night. It helps. Miss Calico Girl will usually
join me if Merlin isn't too close to her pillow. He knows this and tries
to get away with sleeping as close to the pillow as Huey will let him.

The military assigns military widows a Casualty Assistance Officer (CAO)
who walks the widow(er) through the post funeral wrap up of the spouses'
estate and other business. This can take as few as a couple weeks or as
long as several years depending on the complexity of the estate. Mine is
a fairly simple process made longer by bureaucratic garbage. My officer,
Captain Rodriguez, is owned by a Persian that he rescued in South Korea
and her three half Persian offspring. Apparently she got knocked up just
before she came to the states. All members of the feline family have had
fixed what isn't broken and live in an enclosure in the garage in the
house the captain and his family just bought. The captain is in love with
my enclosure and is looking at making something similar for his owners.
His wife HATES cats and they have compromised accordingly. I referred him
to Flippy's cat pages as a place to start research on ways to make life
easier for them all. I also gave him Dave Stevenson's pages, but didn't
have the URL handy at the time, and suggested that he Google the site.
Captain Rodriguez is totally charmed by Smokey, whom he calls Evil or Evil
Canievel. He keeps threatening to stick Smokey into his brief case and
smuggle him home. At first that got both Jim and Mandy into an uproar,
but now they are used to it and laugh.

On the insurance front. I am supposed to hear from the private insurance
by the 20th to see if they need more information and, if not, how much of
Rob's insurance we'll get. The military insurance (SGLI) is demanding
that I prove that Rob was incapable of making proper decisions (yeah, try
getting a military doctor to admit that a soldier is incapable of
something that could bounce back on the army) before releasing his
insurance. The man paid into the insurance for 19 years, 9 months and 17
days and I have to prove that he was incapable of making the decision to
keep making payments after 2004. Yipes. We sent off a large packet to
the VA today with more medical records. I'm ready to go up to
Philadelphia and camp on their doorstep if that is what it takes.

The VA says that I will start getting my widow's benefits in 6 months.
Sigh. About that time, I will start getting my SBP offset. Another rant.
Every year congress passes the widow's compensation offset bill. Every
year they fail to provide funding for it, so they can claim that they
passed it, but neglect to point out that no widows will benefit from it.
Nice guys right.

In a week or two, I will start meeting with a spouse's survivor group, or,
as I call it, Widows Anonymous. I'm not handling Rob's death well and
neither is Amanda. I'm making her come with me as a hand holder and maybe
we can either get her in a group of her own, or she can be in with me. I
miss Rob so much.

Widowhood sucks.
