Re: My old homes (WAS: Re: How Can This Cpuple Live Like This?)

I don't think we can fairly blame the "what if there's a fire"
argument.

DP and I are often away at work. What if there's a fire while we're
gone?

Or, let's say I'm home and DP's on the night shift and the fire alarm
goes off at 1 am. One asthmatic with a nerve-damaged left arm, four
cats, on the third floor. Typically I put the cats in the carriers
but don't begin the "Trying to carry them out" bit unless I actually
*see a sign of fire* like smoke, firemen calling us to evacuate,
shouting from people outside. Because it is more likely that the
alarm is going off from vandalism or water pressure (it's hooked ot
the water system too), and I don't want to risk dropping a carrier and
having a cat escape and get lost outside UNLESS there is really a
fire.

It doesn't make sense to say you shouldn't have pets if you live in a
highrise and/or if you work during the day. The odds of a fire are
pretty low.
