them but that's not much good if I can't see them.

You are giving up WAY too easily, Bev. The transition from motzarella
to eternal-september is relatively painless and tens of thousands of
other folks with Outlook Express have done it. You can do it too.
IF YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS:
1. do NOT just change the name from motzarella to e-s.
2. ADD a NEW account
3.make sure you CHECK the box this servers requires me to log on
4. make sure you do NOT check the box about password authentication.
5. Use the EXACT username and EXACT password you used on your
motzarella account.
Go to motzarella.support is it still doesn't work. There was only one
guy who wrote in about 20 times claiming he couldn't get it to work,
but it eventually turned out he was using an incorrect password ----
I'm sure it'll turn out to be something simple that you're
overlooking.
Meanwhile, try the above and DO go to motzarella.support for further
info . . .
That you're having trouble with AIOE as well tells me that you MUST be
doing something wrong . . . don't give up. If it all turns out to be
beyond you, there's always googlegroups, but I'm confident you can
avoid that . . .

No, no, no, no, NO!
You add the new account thru Outlook Express, *NOT* thru the eternal-
september.org website. Of course you're already a client. You're a
motzarella client.
Do this: (in OUTLOOK EXPRESS)
1. Tools > Accounts > News
2. click ADD
3. selects "news" from the dropdown menu
-fill in your display name, hit NEXT
-fill in your email address, hit NEXT
-type in news.eternal-september.org, (do *not* hit next yet)
-CHECK "my news server requires me to log on", hit NEXT
-type in your account name and password
-CHECK remember password
-do NOT check the Secure password authenication box, now hit NEXT
- click FINISH
You should then get a message that asks "would you like to download
newsgroups from the news account you added?
click YES
You may get a prompt to enter your username and password -- do so.

use google groups if that doesn't work
----------

You have explained it in much simpler terms than me, this is how I was
trying to talk her through the set-up.

I have copied and pasted your instructions in an email to Bev in case she no
longer has access to the news group but I had an email from her this morning
and she still can't get it "sigh"

Lois

I didn't get the impression that attention to detail was one of Bev's
strong points.
In fact, I daresay that even googlegroups may prove such a challenge
to her that it may be quite some time before you all hear from her
again . . .
I'm sure she's convinced herself that she's followed instructions to
the letter, when in fact she's probably making the same mistakes over
and over again. Oh well...
Short of invading her house, pulling her away from her computer and
doing it for her, there's really nothing more that can be done . .
.
