I'm sorry you've had such a horrid time. You feel you failed but they have
failed, failed in bringing out the best of you. No one works well in such
an atmosphere, the stress of it prevents anyone giving their best and
therefore it causes mistakes. Remember the only people who never make
mistakes are the ones who do no work.
My favorite teacher/professor said the same thing. "The only people who
make no mistakes are those who never try." Then he gave me a B for what I
felt was the worst paper I'd ever written, along with a hand out on writing
thesis papers and using proper notations. He told me that my work wasn't
bad, just that I'd never been exposed to the MLA system before. After that,
he graded my papers on both content and lay out. I learned a lot from him.
I still visit him when I'm at the college.
