I went to visit Mom this morning. The doctor said they were going to
discharge her! He gave me a few instructions for follow-up care with a
pulmonary specialist since they'd found and drained fluid from one of her
lungs.
Since I can't get her in and out of my car the social worker arranged for
an ambulance to transport her back home. I left so I could drop off a
prescription and so I'd be here when they brought her home.
The nurse called. They'd gotten her unhooked from everything and she was
sitting in a chair. The nurse went to finish her discharge papers. When
she came back Mom was on the floor. (Apparently she was trying to be
"helpful" by walking out to the hall to wait for the gurney!) Mom hit her
head on the counter. She's also complaining of hip pain. <sigh> Now they
have to do another head CT (the one they did when she was admitted was
normal for that of an 82 year old woman). They'll be doing a scan of her
hip, too. She could stand and get into bed with assistance from the nurse
but she's in pain so they have to rule out a hairline fracture.
Why didn't she just stay in the chair?! She could have been home by now,
dammit! Thanks for all your well wishes and good thoughts. Please keep
the purrs coming.
Jill
