Francis has been doing his usual adoration of hens today. I've been out mowing a very overgrown lawn. In the process, I've taken to tops off several anthills. Cue henny clucking of excitment as they attack the ants, goggling them up and any ants' eggs that have been exposed. Poor Francis, he loves them but he really, really doesn't understand their choice of food. He was sat about a metre away, head cocked to one side, looking on with eyes out on stalks, as if to say "You eat *those*???"
That's amusing. How are the laydeez laying at the moment?

Going great guns. Still laying about five-six days out of seven. Just had a rather tasty fritata made from their finest productions
My very elderlies stopped laying in late July to moult, and that's usually it until spring. I went to buy more food yesterday. "Two bags of layers pellets" I said to the farmer "although I'm just going to call them chicken pellets at the moment." He laughed.
Today I heard a chortling noise from inside a nestbox I haven't bothered to check for weeks. 7 eggs.
Dammit, I *bought* some last week..

If ou haven't checked the nest for weeks, how can you tell if the eggs are edible?MLB
