Its regarding the little girl who went missing in Florida in June.
Been on the national news shows since early July. The authorities
just recently were able to prove that there is evidence of
decomposition of human remains in the trunk of the mother's car.
A fairly typical case where the missing child is a huge international
news story in large part because she was very cute, white and lets
face it, a girl.
I feel so bad for other families who are faced with the loss of their
children, where the children are ignored my the media because they
don't fit that criteria.
Your whole perspective is insane. Do you think _media attention_ makes
a wit of difference to people with a missing child? I feel bad for
anyone whose child has gone missing as the prospects, unless we are
talking about missing for a very few days, are so bleak.
Yeah, "I'm discriminated against because my dead kid isn't in the
newspaper." We won't hear that soon from anyone who isn't loony. the
idea that media attention might help find the kid might be temporary
solace but, long-term, it doesn't mean much.
Watching this kind of news coverage must just cut out their hearts.
Oh, yeah. Jealousy of media attention must really be very important to
someone with a missing kid. Actually, they need _you_ to feel outrage
on their behalf because this is so minor compared to the kid being
missing.

In cases of kidnapping, media coverage is very *much* a factor in helping to
find the child. The more people who see the missing child's picture, the
more chances that someone will report seeing that child.
That depends on how long the child is missing. Children who are
_going_ to be found, who are alive, will be found quicker with media
coverage in some cases. But mostly it doesn't help.
There's also the less helpful, but still human response of, "my child is
missing too so why is *he/she* so less important that it's not being
reported on in the same fashion".
In my experience, the immediate family was way beyond that.
Sympathisers, myself included, were very upset with the media.
However, the kid's folks were so miserable that additional emotion
wasn't available to be upset about the media. My indignation and that
of other friends of the family was fairly fierce but media coverage,
it turns out, would not have meant a thing. He was missing because he
was dead and nothing was going to bring him back, certainly not
another day's coverage from the New Haven Register.
