I sure sympathize Jo - a fellow I knew wanted to 'improve' my former

And I hate 'Nerds on call'
My computer just returned from a two week 'sabbatical's.
I wanted my computer moved to another room, some more ram added and just a
general tune up. It was working well enough at the time.
The tech guy moved it all, and ran diagnostics. All good. Wanted to do a
tune up and increase RAM. OK.
Three hours later he is in the room with the computer mumbling and can no
longer get online.
Has to take it to the shop. Two days later we learn he walked off the job
after he took the computer in. And now it not only will not go online, it
will only operate in safe mode.
Great.
Next call, they need to reinstall windows. Great again. If that doesn't
work, they will need to format the hard drive.
Oh, goody. Just what I always wanted.
After two weeks, I have my computer back. Just like a brand new computer.
All my data is sitting out in limbo to be retrieved as I figure out what I
need and where it is. All my programs need reinstalled.
And I can't figure out how to get my contact list in Outlook to work
everywhere else.
I did insist that they reinstall Outlook Express, Office, and Bubbels.
Told the very nice man who brought the computer back that he absolutely
had
to find and reinstall Bubbels, because that's my pacifier, and I think I'm
gonna need it a lot.
Just needed to unload.

I don't worry so much about losing a hard drive because everything is
backed up a couple of times I might not be happy about reinstalling
everything, but all my important stuff - my data and designs are all
in at least two places and the most important of important is in four
places. I also save frequently :). Yes, I am one of THOSE people. I
have lost info before and will never lose it again - especially not
since my designs are my career. Makes the computer look a whole lot
different. I honestly can't remember the last time I played a computer
game. Don't get me wrong, I am as much a game geek as anyone else here
- just since I started working on a computer for work and portfolio
and freelance work, games just don't seem so much fun anymore. I don't
want to sit in this chair anymore at the end of the day!
