Can they always tell, though, even when they do check? If a surgery
scar isn't obvious, how would they know until they opened her?

Poor thing, being cut open for nothing. :( At least they usually heal
pretty quickly. I agree about the discount. And certainly you shouldn't
be charged the extra amount due to her being "in season", since she
couldn't have been!

I wasn't charged the extra for being i n season, but I was charged for a spay. He did do the work of a spay, and I was told it took a bit longer than usual as he had to look harder for what was left. Like most people, he doenst work for free, even if the work turned out not to be necessary.

My real point was that the surgery should not have been performed at all. Except in rare instances (such as what Lorraine described), the vet should have been able to find the scar after shaving Shadow's fur in that area. There are exceptions, where the scar can't be seen, but I think that's unusual.
