The chemical doesn't know what your diagnosis is. Soem
antidepressants (amitriptyline in particular) are VERY effective for
pain relief for a
LARGE number of people (it's often used for ME/CFS) - though at a much
lower dose than when used as an antidepressant. People shouldn't be
discouraged from trying this because somebody had a bad reaction to it
(or to an another antidepressant entirely).
Some drugs have a very weird range of uses. That's just the way the
human body works. Chronic fatigue and preventing flu? relieving
allergies, increasing appetite and countering the sexual side-effects
of Prozac? treating leprosy and dermatitis from gluten intolerance? -
there really are three drugs with those ranges of effect. Heck, even
aspirin can both treat sore throats and prevent heart attacks.
There's one drug that I now can't recall, that was orignaly designed to
remove warts IIRC, but a side effect was to clear up non-melanoma skin
cancers. So now guess what its being used for?
