first of all I think this has been beat to death, and secondly I have gotten
any information about anyone I have ever wanted from the net, including but
not limited to, SSN credit, criminal records and unlisted phone numbers, you
only need to know how or who to pay to get it, Lee,

We are also talking to every single person with an Internet

Quite a number of years ago I stopped using my last name on any
public Internet service. In a flash a number of people I "talked"
with on alt.cats and some other places no longer knew me. I had a
need to do that and in hindsight it was right for me. Can someone
piece together enough to figure out my last name and all the rest,
yes but that is because I did allow it out and still allow a very
low level of identity out in dribs and drabs. There is no regular
poster to this group that anyone should need to worry about but the
entire world has access not just us. I just think you err on the
side of caution: unless one of you told me to post your information
I would not post it. Like everyone I make mistakes and I consider
this was one since it seems like Susan did not say post it even
if she would if given the chance. I am not beating anyone up but
beating up the poster (a lurker?) who brought the point out seems
like attacking the messinger.

btw: there _are_ a few people who know the link between my old id
and "outsider" and I would hope they keep it to themselves.
I am one of those few people who have almost no web presence. Even if
you knew my full name and where I live, unless someone gave you my
address, you would be unable to find me. This has become more and
more important as employers check out the web to check out whether or
not to give someone an interview. Facebook page they don't like -
there goes the interview. Web page they can link you to that has
something controversial on it - there goes the interview.
As I am fixing to be applying for jobs in public relations/marketing,
I am so glad I haven't made my presence known far and wide on the
internet.

smartest thing to do. I constantly use google to search out my phone
number and adress along with my real emails to make sure nothing is
there
I have a block on my credit report and social number unless I say you
can look at it. It don't happen
A good rule would be never put anything on the Internet (mypage,
youspace, whatever) you would not want your boss, neighbors, teachers or
parents to see. Not to mention spouse or children now or in the future.
