Things getting better all the time

It's finally been going so well that I am wondering when it won't!
Dave blew out the physio on Monday because he had a cold (I didn't
escape the cold by being sensible and lying low last week I am dosing
myself on cold remedies even as we speak)
The social worker turned out to be okay and is going to add his voice
to the demand the orthotic people do something about shoes because the
district nurses are also now worried when he finally gets the
dressings off his foot, the plastic sandals he wears at the moment
might rub the new skin and start it off again, He also may have found
some voluntary work for Dave to do (He's applied to about 8
organisations and thus far the best reply has been they have enough
but can they keep him on their books? Some of them just plain turned
him down) he mentioned at the infamous day centre down the road they
do need people who can use computers and it could lead to a paid job
so we'll see about that
Wednesday they came round to wrestle Dave into the toe cap/foot
binding thingies only to find that as they were made when Dave was not
walking much they now no longer fit and will take another 3-4 weeks to
get new ones so they have grugdingly agreed they'll just watch things
and he might be able to avoid having anything on his feet- which gives
him a real incentive to do physio Although the next day someone told
him he will have to wear support stockings on both feet for the rest
of his life which is a line we haven't heard since Kay at Thames House
and he hasn't worn them for months
Thursday Fiola (the new physio- we've finally found out her name) took
Dave out- I was in receipt of a completely unexpected half day (all
month we get told this year we cannot have the traditional half day
Xmas shopping then with just 2 days to go- we get told we have it but
we have to take it now) so I came home and found the flat empty- it
felt really strange being in the flat on my own, I had this sudden
urge to make a coffee and put that and the ashtray by the computer and
type another missive to the ng. I've often tried to say there were
good things about living on my own (apart from proving I could do it
if I had to- I left my parents to move in with Dave so until he was in
hospital I had never lived on my own) like being able to play what
sounds I wanted (through the reality was after a day at work then at
the hospital my usual actions on arriving home were to throw food at
the cats, stroke them for a bit and collapse into bed) but the flat
felt uncomfortable so I decided to see if they had made it to the
"Bells" but they hadn't. Caught up with them coming back, they'd gone
down the side street then back across and down the next street
(walking to the "Bells" would have been a shorter distance), Dave was
walking at something approaching normal speed and was so pleased with
his progress.
Tomorrow we have Fiola again and then two days off before more Fiola
and the district nurses return. I am looking forward to just having
Xmas at home with Dave- I am going to see my brothers next Saturday to
exchange presents and eat the turkey etc- this means I don't have to
do my Xmas shopping until Thursday or Friday, which turns out to be
good news as Friday I got a call from my bank asking me if I was in
the USA "Nope I'm in my office" was the reply, turns out my debit card
has been skimmed i.e. someone has a copy of the number and my PIN and
apparently (US catslaves take note) US cash machines have less
security features so they send the numbers over there but as this card
has never been used in the US, the system flagged it and it didn't pay
out- so they tried 5 times in 24 hours but unless there's a
transaction in the UK that hasn't shown yet thankfully I haven't had
any money stolen (I told one of our consultants about this and he told
me, he had it done to him in a restaurant where a waiter wasn't honest
but also not too bright so while he was finishing his coffee he got a
call from his bank, the waiter turned out to have a card cloning
machine out back (makes me wonder if the management were in on this)
and he'd cloned the card and popped down to the jewellers a few doors
down to make some purchases only to have the bank flag it up because
as the bank guy said "You've never used this card before in a
jewellers...we had to check...you could be buying your girlfriend an
engagement ring but better safe than sorry" his reply was "I don't
have a girlfriend...and my boyfriend doesn't like jewellery either")
But of course this means my debit card has been stopped- I'll get a
new one in 2-3 working days (Xmas is in the way so maybe by next
weekend) in the meantime I am having a great weekend! I have to live
on the cash I have in hand (luckily I'd got a bit out for the office
Xmas party so I had a sensible evening) and my credit cards until
tomorrow when I hope my bank will cash a cheque (they should they know
me in there) or live on the plastic (still just means next month my
bill will be a bit higher and my overdraft a bit lower). It's more I
really only use the card in two shops where I've been going for ages
and know the staff and I really don't like thinking "Did one of them
steal my card details?"
And we're having a little upset at work....wonder if anyone would like
to comment etc...The lovely Helena, our office manager has found
another job. I had a feeling it was coming, I know the background.
This means in about 6-8 weeks her job will be up for grabs and already
a couple of people have asked if I might consider applying for it-
well it's a promotion and more money (and does have that nasty little
bonus that a colleague who swore at me and damn nearly assaulted me a
while back- would have a shock as I would be her boss) normally I
would be working out what to say on the form but as I say I know the
background and I am just wondering whether more variety and quite a
bit more money would make it worthwhile drinking for that poisoned
chalice!
we'll see
