It's not just YOUR closet! My girls are experts at sneaking through an open closet door, even when I think there's NO WAY they could get past me without my seeing them. (Sometimes, when one gets shut in, the other will oet me know, but not always.)

Yesterday, I came home. DH was already home, as usual. I thought it
odd that Oscar wasn't visible; she often greets me in the evening. So
I called her name and heard a faint "mewww". I recruited DH and we
walked around looking for the sound. I more or less went straight to
the closet door; opened it up and out popped my cat. She'd been in
there since the morning, when I had closed the door with the fateful
words, "I'd better close this before Oscar gets in here."
I commented offhandedly that I had better hearing than DH, which got
me a dirty look. DH's version of events is that she simply hadn't
mewed when he called her name. His hearing is just as good as mine,
thank you very much.
Of course, there's no way to know who is right, and it really doesn't
matter. I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel!
