We had to help Shinobu to the Bridge. She was just over 21 years old.
She was a monster as a kitten, and many people thought we named her
Chernobyl after the recent nuclear disaster of that time (1986). She was
still headstrong and willfull right up to her last days. I have a photo
of my son (who is now 19 years old) crawling past her when he was in
diapers and her laying in the grass enjoying the sun. David Yehuda
called her "The beautiful kitty that lives on top of the fridge" because
she wasn't going to have anything to do with that d*g he brought with
him.
She was old, tired and sick. She had been taking steroid shots for years
to keep her alive and finally they didn't work any more. I asked the vet
if there was anything we could do for her to keep her a little longer,
but alas the answer was "no". My son left the room when TED was about to
give her the last shot, but I told him he should have stayed. When the
barbituates got into her system she looked like she was finally at rest
after a long climb up a steep mountain. She went very peacefully.
I still miss her very much.
I e-mailed those of you who's e-mails I had at work (my home computer and
internet connection were all screwed up again) and I don't know if they
passed it on.
Anyway a moment's thought for an old lady who had spirit and fire would
be appreciated.
