You just can't stop nature sometimes :) She wanted a boyfriend and there
he
was! I like that they were bathing together in a pond. Sounds sweet to
me.
Leave them alone.

I had the same reaction. She may come back later. Or not. I feel sorry
for the handler, though.

She may very well come back if they can keep track of her. I don't think
elephants pair off like that except when they mate. So the handler could
also have a second little elephant to train in a couple of years.

You are right, elephant mating pairs don't stay together. The large
herds are all females and their young, and the grown males live mostly
solitary lives. The problem is that the circus will move to another
town, possibly before the two elephants part company. In that case
the handler will probably have no choice but to go with the circus to
care for the other elephants. Then Savitri the elephant will have no
local herd of sisters to join, no handler to care for her, and none of
the information about the area that is important for her survival like
watering hole locations during the dry season, special mineral
deposits, and such.
I feel sad for both handler and animal. Hopefully the handler will
try to get her back one more time before moving on. Hopefully he will
be successful.
